The Authorities have catalogued 125 different species of birds in the Natural Park of the Sierras of Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas, of which 26 are birds of prey. In e property "Las Herrerias" and the Natural Park;

A special bird; BEARDED VULTURE
The Fundación Gypaetus (Gypaetus Foundation) works for the conservation of the species in Andalucia, and is responsible for the execution of the Andalucian Program for Reintroduction of the Bearded Vulture.

The bearded vulture was extinct in this Natural Park and the re-introduction program started in 2005 with 2 or 3 birds released every year since then (in may).

The releases are part of the Program to Reintroduce the Bone-Breaker Vulture, an initiative promoted by the Andalucian Ministry of the Environment to conserve and manage the natural Andalucian heritage, with the support of the European Rural Agriculture Development Fund.  

From 2006, 28 birds have been liberated in the Natural Park of The Sierras of Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas (Jaen) and Sierra of Castril (Granada) of which they survive 18.

The Bearded Vulture Breeding Centre can be visited outside the breeding season , in Cazorla.  We can arrange special visits to the Centre from 1st June to 30th September.
